Slip Prevention in Aged Care and Healthcare Corridors
By Daniels Slip Testing

For older residents a slip is rarely minor. Corridor flooring, lighting and cleaning routines all contribute to a safer facility.
In aged care and healthcare settings the consequences of a fall are far more serious than in most other buildings. Reduced mobility, medication effects and slower recovery mean that prevention carries much more weight than response.
Corridors carry the risk
Long vinyl corridors are walked hundreds of times a day, often with walking frames and trolleys. Spills from meal services and cleaning routines make the wet condition a daily reality rather than an exception.
Beyond the floor finish
- Consistent lighting reduces the shadowing that hides wet patches.
- Avoid strong pattern changes that can be read as a step.
- Keep transitions between flooring types flush and well maintained.
- Handrails should be continuous through the areas residents use most.
Testing as part of clinical governance
Periodic slip resistance testing fits naturally into a facility risk register. It gives management an objective measure to track over time and evidence of reasonable care if an incident is reviewed.
We can test occupied facilities with minimal disruption, working around meal and activity schedules.
